The Artist
Koun Yamamoto (1896–1993) was a luminary of the Nihonga genre, painting the soul of Japan through the turbulent Shōwa period. Born Risaburo Okada in Itami City, he adopted the art name "Koun" (Crimson Cloud).
A graduate of the Kyoto Municipal Painting College, Yamamoto's talent was cultivated under the legendary Takeuchi Seihō, one of the founders of modern Nihonga.

Legacy of the Master: Studying under Takeuchi Seihō placed Yamamoto in a lineage of greatness alongside peers like Shoen Uemura and Tsuchida Bakusen. He inherited Seihō’s delicate control of brush and ink, later evolving it into his own distinct fascination with aquatic life.

山本紅雲（1896年～1993年）は、昭和時代を代表する日本画家の一人です。本名は岡田利三郎。1896年兵庫県伊丹市に生まれ、京都市立絵画専門学校で学びました。
近代日本画の巨匠、竹内栖鳳に師事し、その才能を開花させました。栖鳳の門下からは数多くの文化勲章受章者が輩出されており、紅雲もまたその正統な継承者として活躍しました。
